The Program Course offerings Testimonials
BCKSEET Ignition: is a project-based curriculum for young artists ages 12 through adult, designed to help students develop a better understanding of theatre as an art form through hands-on experimentation, collaboration, and reflection. FTC helps the student evolve to a more heightened awareness of self and environment and encourages her to formulate a broader perspective on the world using theatre as the lens through which to view it.

The program’s full curriculum includes classes on creating original work, theatre outreach, private voice and acting lessons, and audition technique, and strives to create resourceful, innovative artists who excel independently as well as within an ensemble.

BCKSEET Ignition conceiver and teacher, Kate Brennan, holds an MFA in Acting from the University of Virginia and has varied teaching experience in and out of a traditional school setting, instructing ages six through adult.  For the past three years she taught undergraduate courses at The University of Virginia where she was nominated for the Seven Society Excellence in Teaching Award.  In Philadelphia she has been on faculty with The Walnut Street Theatre, Iron Age Theatre Company, Waldron Mercy Academy and Merion Mercy Academy. Brennan was also recently commended with an Award in Excellence for Art, Theatre and Music from the Lt. Governor of Pennsylvania.

FALL SEMESTER: Text, Technique & Tickets: A Monologue Workshop with BCKSEET Productions

BCKSEET launches its education program this fall with monologue workshops on Mondays: one for adults and one for teens.  We have designed both programs to prepare the actor for professional auditions.   The program will guide students in choosing appropriate material, explore the possibilities of each piece and work towards a final mock-audition to prepare students fully for the professional experience.

BCKSEET Ignition will comprise six Monday class sessions with an additional class meeting to see a Saturday evening performance of BCKSEET’s fall production, Late Street Extension,  and have a talk-back with the cast!

Space is limited to 10; tuition is non-refundable.  Reserve your place today! Contact: kate@bckseet.com

Testimonials:

“Kate doesn’t just teach acting, she helps you take a character from the page to the stage and give him life, energy, and hunger.”

Russ Hicks, Third Year, University of Virginia, Drama

“Kate's class is a beneficial experience for any actor looking to improve her craft. Her dedication, teaching methods, and genuine interest in her students' growth serve as a perfect catalyst for improved performance and a deeper understanding of each character. After the last class, I wanted to experience it all over again.”

Allison DeBlois, Second Year, UVA, Drama, Foreign Affairs

“She gives her input while also letting her students explore their own ideas, is always supportive and willing to listen to everything her students have to say. Both her knowledge of the industry and teaching skills were incredibly helpful for me in moving forward as a performer and I am so grateful to have had the opportunity to work with her.”

Hillary Pusak, Sacred Heart High School, Private Voice Student

“Throughout the course of one semester I had learned more from Kate than I have from any other acting professors… I used to not be able to take criticism at all, but Kate knows how to give constructive criticism in a way that is friendly and honest, as well as positive reinforcement. Kate unlocked a lot of my insecurities and made me think like a better performer. Not only is she funny, congenial, approachable, and knowledgeable, but she is also truly talented. I am fortunate enough to say that my first acting experience was with Kate and I will never forget that class. It was a blast!”

Leah Goldman, Third Year, UVA, Drama

“I had Kate as my voice teacher for two and a half years.  In that time, I feel that I grew tremendously as a singer and also as an actor.  She had an amazing way of using acting techniques that she knew I was familiar with to get the results we needed with my voice.  As an actor who was trying to learn to sing, this was perfect.  Also, I always felt that Kate cared about me and that connection inspired me to practice and try as hard as I could.  I always looked forward to voice lessons because Kate turned singing into acting, which is what I loved and we always had fun. “

Margaret Mason, Second Year, Penn State University
